Youth Services Guidelines

The Kansas Public Library Youth Services Guidelines are intended to help libraries measure their current level of library services to children and youth, and to help them improve program, collection and information access to children and youth in their local libraries.

This version of the Kansas Public Library Youth Services Guidelines was developed by the Kansas Library Consultants for Youth (KLCY), coordinating with the State Library of Kansas.

As librarians, whether living in urban or rural communities, we recognize and value children and young adults and actively advocate library services to youth in our libraries, communities and state. The public library is one of the few places where children’s needs are considered to be of equal value to those of adults. Our vision is for youth to experience a sense of joy and wonder by exploring the world through their library by providing dynamic and creative approaches to serving youth, families and communities in a welcoming and accepting atmosphere.
